Well I can’t believe that I am saying this, but gas is getting pretty cheap. It has really dropped in price this week. At $2.04 per gallon it is less than half what I was paying just 3 months ago. In August it was $4.09 at the highest that I had to pay for it. I sure would like to see it continue to go down.
If it gets under $2.00 a gallon I might be able to sell the big van and have some extra cash. The van is such a gas hog that $4 a gallon is too much for people to want to drive a big old van. But maybe at $2 I can find someone that needs a good work van.

The only good thing about this weekend is that we all get an extra hour of sleep. But the bad side of that is that it now gets dark so terribly early and I really miss the sunshine in the afternoons. It gets dark around 4:15 now, and there are still kids getting off the late school bus to head home. I don’t like kids walking the streets after dark, so the change from daylight savings worries me in that regard.
There’s no stopping Mother Nature, so everyone get ready for the shorter days and the colder weather! And don’t forget to set your clocks back either when you go to bed tonight or first thing in the morning!

D. L. Hughley has a new show on CNN late at night. It’s about breaking the news and doing a lot of stand up comedy to a very small studio audience. The show is broadcast in New York City, and it comes on Sunday night, right after Larry King.
His first show was mostly about the presidential race and peppered with a lot of racial remarks. He also talked a little about the World Series and make a cute joke that slammed CNN and their reputation for checking facts. It was quite funny.

Sometimes when you wake up and stand in front of the mirror, your hair just taunts you. Nothing you do will make it behave.
Those are the days that I sprinkle a little water on it (to punish it, mostly) and then pull it back into a ponytail. Wrap a ribbon around the band and off I go. If I don’t have to go to work, I’ll pull on a baseball cap. I keep one in the car and one in the bedroom. Just in case.

My computer has been doing some weird stuff these past couple of days. One of the weirdest is that all the icons on my desktop are re-arranged and the Recycle Bin has gone missing. Now, I’m the first to admit that I’m a packrat and almost never throw anything out, but I do use the Recycle Bin about once a week. Geesh!

If you like fast action and so much intensity that a perceived slight or misstep results in a fist fight or possibly even a brawl by the whole team, then you must be a hocky fan like me.
I have been going to NHL games for over 20 years. I love the game - it is three periods of high level testosterone game play. The fights are real, the injuries are real, the goals are real. I love this game.
My biggest issue with the sport is that the teams trafe players like Wall Street trades penny stocks. I don’t see many teams investing much in a player’s growth and skill development. Just as I start to like a guy, he gets traded away and replaced with a newbie.
One of my favorite players for the local team got traded away over the summer to North Carolina. That just crushed me and really took a lot of incentive away for wanting to buy tickets. I think I’ll just watch a few games on TV and see if the team has the winning magic this year. Somehow with the gaping holes in the roster from my favorite players being traded off these past two summers, I don’t have high hopes for a winning season for the Nashville Predators.

Every Sunday morning, I wake up early and pull on my bathroom, stumble into the kitchen and put on a pot of coffee. Then I go to the front door and open it slowly, looking out to see if anyone else is outside in their yard. If the coast is clear, I dash to the end of the driveway and grab the newspaper, and run back into the house. I would not want any of my neighbors to see me in just my bathrobe, but wearing a bathrobe is part of my sunday morning ritual.
When I come back in the house with my newspaper, the house smells of fresh coffee and I pour myself a cup into my favorite mug to sip on while I read the paper. I got the mug as SWAG many years ago from a radio station. It is hideously ugly, green with the radio station call letter painted on it in blue and yellow, but I love the feel of the cup in my hands and because it is made of ironstone, it keeps the coffee hot at the perfect temperature much longer than the typical ceramic mug does.

Chinese take out is a great American tradition. There are dozens of little Chinese restaurants all over every city where you can call in an order of Special #2 or Combo #4 and they will deliver your food to your door. The Chinese food carryout close to my house is owned by a real Chinese family and they barely speak any English. I have such a hard time getting them to understand my address for the delivery. I wish I could order over the internet so they could just read the information instead of spending 5 frustrating minutes on the phone trying to tell them where to find my house.

I guess the country got lucky last year with not much major hurricane damage. I seem to remember that Florida had a few small hurricanes blow through the state, but nowhere else had much trouble. Well that was so last year! This year we have had a series of threatening storms, including Hurricane Gustav that caused New Orleans to be evacuated again, and then right after Gustav we had Hurricane Ike hit southern Texas. The poor people who lived on Galveston have been pretty much wiped out. I think this is the second time in its history that most of the island has been obliterated by a hurricane.
If we’ve learned anything from Hurricane Katrina, it surely must be that when told to evacuate, you grab your stuff and go away. It makes no sense to stay behind and tough out a hurricane. Go away for a few days or even a week and let the Government deal with it.
